There was a time of great depression. At that time nearly twenty five percent working force had lost their jobs. The farmers were not included in those unemployed persons. Their economic situation was worst. Many of them were forced to sell off their farms. The banking system had collapsed. There was hunger and joblessness everywhere. The unemployment compensation scheme was created to give boost to the economy. The idea was to give the temporary economic benefit to the unemployed people. These people would spend this money on the necessary goods and services. This in turn would give the boost to the businesses. The closed mills and factories would open up creating more employment and better economic situations. The economic idea behind these unemployment compensation schemes was to give stimulus to the whole economy benefiting the communities and businesses also. This representative Jim McDermott has sponsored a new provision for this unemployment compensation program. This new provision can change this seventy four years old unemployment compensation program. The new provision will allow those persons who have left the job for ailing relatives to be eligible for this scheme. The introduction of this new provision has started a debate regarding this unemployment
compensation program. There are two different schools of thinking over here. The first group of people feels that this unemployment compensation program was started with the idea of providing cushion for only those people whose jobs are disappearing. This group argues that this unemployment compensation program is for those people who lost their job for no fault of theirs. The economic downturn was there and you lost your job for no other reason. You need to get some temporary cushioning. This unemployment compensation program provides it. This group argues that this unemployment compensation program is not public assistance program. It is also not a family support program. It is not something like food stamps programs at all. Only those persons who lost the job for no fault of their own should get this unemployment compensation. The oppositions argue that this is for single mothers. What should single mothers do if they have to quit job for taking care of the child? What should the single woman do if she is facing abusive relationship? This unemployment compensation provision is supposed to help these persons. Some critics will argue that it is difficult to decide the illness. If somebody leaves the job as the family member has got colds, will he/she be eligible for this unemployment compensation? There is going to be $7 billion fund for those states that provide unemployment compensation as per these new provisions. Let us wait till the approval of the senate house and signing by president Obama, to understand how the states react to these new unemployment compensation provisions. Unemployment
