The recession is already in. the people are losing their jobs very fast. The unemployment benefit scheme was first introduced in the great depression time. The unemployment benefits or the unemployment compensation is now called as unemployment pay. The word pay has some psychological satisfaction to the unemployed. The American government is trying its level best to give stimulus to the economy. But presently the times seems pretty tough. The jobs lost in January 2009 were 589,000. This is the highest number since the year 1974. The unemployment rate has become all time high at 7.6 per cent. The people are finding it difficult to make both ends meet. One woman has given her story to the newspapers. She has left her home. She is now staying with her relatives. She has cut down on her medications. She has cut down on her groceries. She is getting monthly unemployment pay of $1300. The figure seems pretty big on the paper. But she says that part cut her and there means losing some more dollars.
